Born and raised in Valley Stream, NY I got my first taste of Rock and Roll at the age of 12 at a Kiss concert. From that point on I knew I wanted to play music. It was not until I saw Rush that I decided to play Bass guitar. At 14 my dad got me an old Fender P Bass and I started to smack the strings. I never really took any lessons so I played along with the albums of Zeppelin, The Stones, The Who, The Beatles, Rush, Yes, etc.. I attended college at the State University of New York at Oneonta. My roommate was an awesome guitar player and I would jam with him a little. Unfortunately I was not ready to be playing in a band at the time as I never really devoted a lot of time to my playing. I completed college and got my C.P.A. certificate in 1990. I relocated to Virginia Beach and it was then when I decided to get more serious. I taught myself how to read music and started learning hundreds of songs from Guitar World tablature while traveling for 5 years as an auditor. This really opened the door for me and the instructional columns taught me a lot. I finally had some dough to buy decent equipment and really started to play more intensely. Unfortunately the demands of climbing the Corporate ladder and being a competitive power lifter/bodybuilder left very little spare time to truly get serious with my musicianship. I found my way to Atlanta in 1996. It was at this point when I stopped traveling for my job that I decided I really wanted to join a band. I coached football for my son’s team for many years and never realized my dear friend, who coached with me, was a singer from New Jersey. His childhood buddy was also here in Atlanta and played guitar. We formed a band called “On Time” playing classic rock from the 70’s. We performed local gigs but did more of the private party venues. It was at a private party where Rhonda and Gyro, who recently moved from Huntington Beach, Ca, decided to crash a 2005 Halloween party gig I was doing (they were uninvited but who can tell with Halloween costumes). They needed to re-form the band as their bass player and guitarist remained in Ca. This is where it all started!! I was not interested in doing original music until they handed me their CD “Marking Time.” I was blown away by the CD as I listened to it in the car on the way home from the gig and decided to give it a shot. The chemistry between the three of us was evidenced in the first jam session as I learned all their original songs from their CD. This is where the two of them pulled my own style out of me. I quickly learned that creating your own music is what it was all about and that I had something inside me waiting to get out. In addition, Rhonda became the sole guitarist and the beginning of a power trio was created (she kicks A _ S with the VHT!!) The rest of the story is Southern Crush pumping rock and roll in your face!!! On a technical standpoint, I have played many bass guitars over the years ranging from Musicman, Peavey, Yamaha, Fender, Warwick. I have become a huge Warwick Fan. The sound of that extremely dense wood is incredible. I currently play a Warwick “Corvette” and also a Warwick “Katana” through an Ampeg SVT-3 Pro with a Peavey 4X12 cabinet (or my Ampeg 4X10 cabinet depending on the venue). I also own a Peavey Bam 2X10 combo for smaller functions. In addition I also own a Fender Jazz (Marcus Miller signature) but I primarily play the Warwick Corvette. I use Elixir polyweb strings with a Seinhouser wireless system. Check out the music on the Web site and Rock out!!!!
